Niger State government has commended health workers, journalists, security agencies and other emergency response team for their commitment in ensuring precautionary measures are put in place by government against COVID-19.

In a statement, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Chairman, Niger State Task Force on COVID-19, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, urged them to sustain the tempo.

He also commended Nigerlites for “their patience, dedication and perseverance in this trying moment history.

“The government applauds the support and understanding of the people of the state who have shown commitment and adhere strictly to the precautionary measures taken by the government towards the containment of Coronavirus disease in the state.”

The SSG explained that the state was yet to record any case of an outbreak, but informed Nigerlites that the measures taken by the government became necessary to ensure that the virus would not find its way to the state.

He called on people to maintain the social distancing by avoiding crowded areas such as clubs, bars, burial, marriage and naming ceremonies and all forms of gathering which are requisite measures to curb the spread of the pandemic that has become a global threat.

Ahmed Matane assured the citizens that the government was not resting on its oars towards addressing the emergency challenges faced by the people as a result of measures taken by the government to curtail the spread of COVID-19 in the state through the provision of palliatives to the vulnerable members of the society.   The SSG therefore warned that the lackadaisical attitude of some people towards the pandemic would worsen the situation as the virus was real and could only be curtailed when all preventive measures were observed.
