COVID-19: Kwara records second death

Kwara State on Tuesday  recorded another death of COVID-19 patient.

The deceased described as a 50-year old woman was the second patient that would die of the coronavirus in the state.

Her death came about a month after that of the first casualty, a male patient, who died in early May.

The first casualty the state government had explained at the time, recently arrived the state from Lagos with his wife and a child shortly after he suffered stroke at his Lagos base.

The goverment said before his death, it had treated him, his wife and their child as suspected cases and took samples of them and added that the results of their samples came back positive.

The Kwara State Technical Committee on COVID-19 which announced the death of the second casualty in a statement expressed regret that efforts to save her life prooved abortive.

“We regret to announce that the patient did not make it despite the efforts of the medical personnel to save her,” Our heartfelt condolences go to her family. We stand by them at this trying time, and restate the need for everyone to keep safe by adhering to all COVID-19 safety protocols,” th statement reads.

The statement signed by the spokesman of the committee, Rafiu Ajakaye, also announced the discharge of 18 patients who have twice tested negative.

“Despite the sad occurrence on Tuesday, the government is consoled by the recovery and discharge of 18 other patients. The government commends all the frontline workers who are making so much sacrifice to ensure we win this war,” it states
