Court remands teenager, 2 others in prison custody, over alleged armed robbery

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded in prison custody, a teenager, name withheld, who allegedly masterminded the attempted robbery of his former employer.

 

 

The Magistrate, Mrs Abimbola Oshodi-Makanju, ordered that the accused be remanded at the Kirikiri Prisons, Apapa, pending advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions.

 

 

The teenager and two others, Chibike Eric, 23, and Enoma Osamuyi, 30, who are a cleaner and a labourer, respectively, were also remanded at the same prison.

 

 

The accused, who reside at Goshen Estate, Lekki, Lagos, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms.

 

 

The prosecutor, Insp. Edet Okoi, had told the court that the accused, with others currently at large, committed the offences at 5.05 p.m. on May 4, at Egbin, Ijede, Ikorodu, Lagos.

 

 

He said that the teenager and his cohorts, while armed with a toy gun and other dangerous weapons, had set out to rob his ex-employer, whom he said usually kept large sums of money at home.

 

 

Okoi said that the accused attempted to rob residents of Egbin area but were apprehended by the youths in the area, who later handed them over to the police.

 

 

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 1 (2) (a) (b), 5 and 28 of the Robbery and Firearms Special Provisions Act, Cap 398, Vol XXII, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 1990, as amended.

 

 

However, the pleas of the accused were not taken by the court.

 

 

Magistrate Oshodi-Makanju adjourned the case till July 14, for mention.
