Court remands security guard for killing his girlfriend who ran after other men

Samuel Adeniyi, 33, a security guard, has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos for allegedly smashing the head of his girlfriend, Morolake Sunday, with a sledgehammer in the Lekki Phase 1 axis of the state.
Magistrate Patrick Nwaka of the Yaba Magistrate’s Court ordered his remand on one-count of murder.
Police prosecutor Thomas Nurudeen told the court the incident occurred on 10 August 2023 at 33, Audu Ekpa Street, Lekki Phase 1, per reporting by The PUNCH.
Nurudeen also disclosed:
- Nwaka claimed Morolake was cheating on him with other men and was never satisfied sexually.
- On the day of the incident, Morolake a nanny, left the child she was babysitting on the pretext of going to buy a telephone recharge card but went to meet another man.
- Adeniyi claimed he waited for hours before she returned.
- When Morolake eventually returned, she and Adeniyi had a heated argument that led to a fight and he unintentionally hit her head with a sledgehammer.
- Adeniyi fled the scene as Morolake was rushed to the Mainland General Hospital by her employers, where she was confirmed dead by a doctor.
The charge read:
“That you, Samuel Adeniyi, on August 10, 2023, around 12 pm, at No. 33 Audu Ekpa Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully kill one Sarah Morolake, aged 25 years by hitting a sledgehammer on her head, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 222 and punishable under Section 233 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.”
Adeniyi’s plea was not taken.
The Magistrate ordered his remand pending legal advice from the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The court adjourned the case until 10 October 2023.

Man attacks wife with machete over adultery, then commits suicide
In another case of jealousy, Friday Omosigho, a farmer, committed suicide in May this year after attacking his wife, Mercy, with a machete on their farm in Benin City and leaving her in a pool of her blood.
The incident happened at Ehiozevbaru Village in Uhunmwode Council after Omosigho reportedly accused Mercy of infidelity.
“The deceased took the matter to the village meeting where some elders intervened to resolve it.
“Apparently unsatisfied with the elders’ verdict, he attacked his wife with a machete on the farm and abandoned her in the pool of blood to die,” the source recounted.
“He then called his younger brother that he had killed his wife and went home to commit suicide by drinking sniper.”
Police confirm incident
Edo Police Command spokesperson Chidi Nwabuzor confirmed the incident and said Omosigho drank a substance suspected to be “sniper”, an insecticide.
He recounted Egbo Divisional Police Officer received a call from one Monday Omosigho that he received a distress call his younger brother, Friday Omosigho, committed suicide by drinking sniper, after attempting to murder his wife over infidelity by giving her machete cuts all over her body.
Nwabuzor confirmed police officers moved to the scene and recovered the corpse of Omosigho and deposited it at the mortuary.
“The wife, who was still alive, was taken to the hospital where she is receiving treatment.
“Investigation on the matter is ongoing and the case has been transferred to the homicide department of the state command,” he added.
