A 42-year-old man, Benjamin Chukwu, was on Tuesday remanded in prison custody by a Federal High Court in Lagos, over a drug trafficking charge.
The accused is charged by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on a one-count charge bordering on the offence.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Mr Jerry Aernan, from the NDLEA, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 6.
He said that the accused was apprehended by NDLEA officials at the Gbaji Check Point, along the Badagry-Seme Road, Lagos State, with about 13.5 kilogrammes of Cannabis Sativa, otherwise known as Indian Hemp.
The prosecutor said that the accused was alleged to be in the habit of selling the narcotic to touts within his vicinity.
He said that the offence contravened Section 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
Justice Mohammed Yunusa, however, ordered the remand of the accused at the Ikoyi Prisons, pending the determination of his bail application.
He adjourned the case till June 23, for ruling on the bail application of the accused.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the offence of drug trafficking could attract up to a term of life imprisonment on conviction.
