A former minister of foreign affairs, Aminu Wali, has been acquitted by  the Federal High Court in Kano of receiving illicit funds from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign council during the 2015 presidential election.

Also acquitted is Mansur Ahmed, a former Director General of the former President Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation in the 2015 Presidential election.

They were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a three-count charges of corruption, receiving slush funds to the tune of N950 million.

The EFCC said the defendants received the illicit campaign funds from the PDP in 2015, an act that it said contravened Section 1 of the Money Laundering Provision Act 2011.

Delivering judgement Friday, December 11, the judge, Lewis Allagoa, said the prosecution failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.

He, therefore, discharged and acquitted the defendants.
