The postponement of the February 16, presidential and national assembly elections has been labeled as Coup against Nigerians by social media users in the country.
Coming under the hashtag, #CoupAgainstNigeria, they allege that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has compromised by postponing the election.
An aide to former president Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri has been vocal in condemning the postponement. He said the postponement was planned because of President Muhammadu Buhari’s claim that nobody can unseat him.
“This postponement was PLANNED. That‘s why @MBuhari gave @CNN an interview and boasted “NOBODY WILL UNSEAT ME”. Is PMB right? So Nigerians can’t unseat PMB? Will his #CoupAgainstNigeria succeed? RETWEET to tell him that YOU, the Nigerian people can unseat him by#VoteBuhariOut,” Omokri tweeted.
According to him, the Council of State did not meet and yet INEC found it right to postpone the election.
He said INEC wants to encourage voter apathy and give the ruling party the advantage of rigging the election.
INEC shifted the elections from February 16 to February 23 for presidential and national assembly elections. The governorship and state house of assembly elections will now hold on March 9 instead of March 2 originally scheduled.
