Cooking gas price rises 2.09%. Costliest in Abuja, Lagos, cheapest in Niger

Average price of 12.5kg cylinder cooking gas refill rose 2.09 per cent to N4,514.82 month-on-month (MoM) and 9.14 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to N4,422.32 in August, according to the National Bureau of Statistics |(NBS).

But the real price is more than N6,000 in Abuja and N7,000 in Lagos.

The latest NBS data reports that average price per litre of kerosene increased to N400.01 in August from N397.34 in July, which is near the real market price of N400 per litre.

The figures published on the NBS website, reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), showed that kerosene price spiked 0.67 per cent MoM and15.43 per cent YoY.

States with the highest and lowest average prices per litre of kerosene are:

·        Enugu – N494.05

·        Ebonyi – N489.17

·        Cross River – N487.50

·        Bayelsa – N255.56

·        Osun – N325

·        Katsina – N322.92

“The average price per gallon paid by consumers for kerosene increased by 1.75 per cent month-on-month and by 8.77 per cent year-on-year to N1,325.39 in August from N1,302.56 in July,” the NBS said.

States with the highest and lowest average prices per gallon of kerosene are:

·        Plateau – N1,757.14

·        Sokoto – N1,580

·        Cross River – N1,533.16

·        Yobe – N1,061.11

·        Bayelsa – N991.67

·        Rivers – N964.75

According to the NBS, the average price for refilling a 5kg cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) or cooking gas increased 3.44 per cent MoM and 11.93 per cent YoY to N2,215.33 in August from N2,141.59 in July.

States with the highest and lowest average prices are:

·        Akwa Ibom – N3,025.45

·        Benue – N2,825

·        Jigawa – N2,521.43

·        Lagos – N1,847.70

·        Ondo – N1,840.81

·        Abuja – N1,806

The NBS said fieldwork was done by more than 700 of its staff in all states, supported by supervisors monitored by internal and external observers.

The audit team conducted randomly selected verification of prices.
