Former President Goodluck Jonathan cheated death on Wednesday in Abuja when his convoy was involved in a fatal crash.

However, some people in his entourage were not as lucky as two of them, his moble police escorts, reportedly lost their lives.

The former president was said not to be in the particular vehicle that crashed, hence he was neither directly affected nor hurt.

TheNiche gathered that Jonathan, who is also the Special envoy of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), was on his way from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to his house in Abuja.

It couldn’t immediately be ascertained whether he was returning from a trip abroad or travelling within the country.

However, an aide to Jonathan said he was doing okay. After the crash, Jonathan went home.

But he later went with his wife, the former First Lady, Patience, to the emergency unit of the National Hospital, Abuja where all victims were evacuated to.

Although Jonathan was not admitted into any of the units in the hospital, some members of his team, apart from the two that died, were critically injured.

The Federal Road Safety Corps, which confirmed the incident, admitted that two people died in the accident.

The spokesman for the FRSC, Mr. Bisi Kazeem, said: “Two people died in the accident. It was the ex-President’s convoy that was involved but he was not in the car that had the accident.”
