Nigerians are mocking the head of Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team, Abba Kyari, for admitting to being a delivery man in native clothing to self-confessed internet fraudster, Ramon Abbass, popularly known as Hushpuppi.
Kyari, who is bound for a court trial in the US, has been indicted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for aiding Hushpuppi in his criminal activities. A US court has ordered his detention. But he argues that he is innocent, claiming he only helped Hushpuppi acquired five pairs of native clothes at the rate of N300,000.
Many Nigerians have found Kyari’s claim amusing and have used it to mock him.
On Twitter, Reno Omokri, a former aide on social media to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, says: “For your native wears and other fashion, super cop Abba Kyari is your man! Kyari is a tailor to the high and mighty in the world of crime. Do you know a fraudster or a notorious yahoo boy? What are you waiting for? Give him Kyari’s number without further ado!”
Another tweet from @SavvyRinu, added: Abba Kyari dey help Yahoo boy buy clothes. Policeman by day, cloth seller by night.Jack of all trades.”
@Chxta quipped: “Just finished a meeting. We spent the first 15 minutes talking about what brought us here, and then spent the next (almost) two hours talking about Abba Kyari and his knowledge of tailors..”
On Facebook, a civil rights activist, Zikora Ibeh, also mocks Abba Kyari’s clothing business with Hushpuppi: “Takeaways from Kyari’s response to the allegation of bribery levelled against him by Hushpuppi. 1. Besides being a high-ranking police officer, Kyari is also a dropshipper and delivery guy who deals in Ankara clothing. 2. The police headquarters also doubles as a DHL service point or pickup centre if you like, for persons who patronise Kyari’ Ankara business and perhaps, items from his other side hustle yet unknown. 3. Kyari’s Ankara wears are dorime stuff in case you are thinking of patronising his dropshipping services. His dealer charges 300k for five native wears.”
