The conflict that erupted between the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) both of whom were members of the Council Of Maritime Transport Unions and Associations (COMTUA), leading to the eventual withdraw of MWUN from COMTUA, may have become irreparable.
This is because the withdrawal letter which was written on the 23rd, June 2021 has outlined some of its grievances for opting out of the association
The group said frivolous petitions by NURTW against the MWUN which led to the arrest of some members, thereby causing serious embarrassment and the peddling of falsehood against members of MWUN are some of the reasons the MWUN left the COMTUA.
It could be recalled that about three weeks ago, the media was awash with stories about the withdrawal of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria ( MWUN) from the Council Of Maritime Transport Unions and Associations (COMTUA) and their exit from the group has brought anxiety in the maritime sector over the fate of members and their interest due to the seemingly volatile nature of the transport subsector within the industry.
In a letter, COMTUA disclosed that it has accepted the withdrawal of MWUN from the Association and also declared that it shall look into the complaints that led to their withdrawal.
COMTUA also noted that all the contributions of MWUN in the course of their collaboration are appreciated and noted, but that the letter of withdrawal kept on mistakenly referring to COMTUA as the Council Of Maritime Trade Unions and Associations. ”
COMTUA wishes to state that the right name and meaning of COMTUA is Council Of Maritime Transport Unions and Associations.”
The acceptance letter which was signed by the National Organising Secretary, Mr. Adeyinka Aroyewun as authorised by the National President of COMTUA , Otunba Olaleye Thompson wishes MWUN well in their future endeavours
