Christmas: Sanwo-Olu orders 24-hour LASTMA operations

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has directed the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to operate 24-hour traffic monitoring and enforcement across strategic areas to ensure smooth vehicular movement throughout and after the Yuletide season.

In compliance with the directive, LASTMA has deployed over 2,500 officers equipped with advanced traffic management tools, including heavy-duty and mini towing vehicles, to congestion-prone zones such as Ikoyi, Lekki, Victoria Island, Ajah, and other key areas across the metropolis.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, disclosed the deployment on Sunday, mandating the LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, to ensure immediate implementation.

Giwa emphasized that the Governor’s directive prioritizes clearing obstructions and managing traffic incidents promptly to guarantee seamless mobility for residents and visitors during the festive period.

Speaking on the initiative, Bakare-Oki affirmed LASTMA’s readiness to execute round-the-clock traffic interventions, especially in historically congested areas like Ikoyi, Obalende, Victoria Island, and the Lekki-Ajah axis.

“Our personnel are fully equipped and strategically positioned to promptly address any traffic challenges that may arise. This initiative aligns with the Governor’s vision of a Lagos where mobility remains unhindered throughout the festive period,” Bakare-Oki stated.

He urged residents to cooperate with traffic officials and adhere to established regulations to facilitate smooth operations, reiterating LASTMA’s commitment to maintaining order and providing timely assistance on Lagos roads.

“This proactive intervention by the Lagos State Government reaffirms its unwavering resolve to enhance traffic management and ensure a stress-free Yuletide season for all.”

For traffic-related emergencies, residents are encouraged to contact LASTMA’s toll-free hotline: 080000527862 for prompt assistance.
