Against the backdrop of daunting economic challenges, spiraling insecurity and other issues confronting the country, former Senate President and 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, Anyim Pius Anyim, has urged Nigerians not to despair, but to look forward to 2022 with renewed hope, optimism and abiding faith in God.

Anyim, who gave the advice in a Christmas and New Year message on Thursday, noted: “We all started this year 2021 with high hopes and expectations. Naturally, as individuals, families, communities and indeed a country, we will retain memories of good and not too good experiences in one area of our lives or another in the year 2021.

“However, whatsoever may have come our way this year, we must give thanks to God for sparing our lives.

“For our country, the challenges we have faced in 2021 may have been daunting. We may have been stretched almost beyond limits in every facet of life. But there is good news. Our problems don’t define us. Nigerians are hardworking, peace-loving, accommodating and happy people.

“We have always overcome our challenges when we pulled together. Our collective will and determination will always be stronger than our problems.

“Let us, therefore, look forward to 2022 with renewed hope, optimism and abiding faith in God. Together we will make Nigeria great again. I wish Nigerians a joyful Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous 2022.”

The former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) who has declared his interest for the presidency, has argued that Nigeria needs a visionary leader, who is both educated and capable, to harness communication, technology, and the creativity of youth for the country to fully benefit from the windfall of the Fourth Industrial Revolution now upon the world.

“Nigeria [which] was founded on the principle of unity in diversity, but we are now more divided than ever in our history.

“Around the world our image has shifted from the giant of Africa to what some say is the poverty capital of the world ….

“We need leadership that will change these challenges to a success story. Such leadership must have vision and capacity, be determined and above all be inclusive”, he said on behalf of fellow recipients of the Year 2020 Zik Prize in Leadership at a ceremony held at Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, in November.

Elsewhere, he had stated his drive for the presidency, explaining that with the benefit of experience in government, he understands what the problems are and so can find solutions to them. He equally intends to serve as a president that every Nigerian would be proud of.
