Choice of Obi’s running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, excites supporters

The former senator who represented Kaduna North, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, may soon be unveiled as the running mate for the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.

The news about Datti Baba-Ahmed’s unveiling has already kept Twitter buzzing with ‘The VP’ trending number one in Nigeria.

Obi’s supporters, who call themselves Obidients, are excited with the choice of Datti Baba-Ahmed.

He is the founder of Baze University in Abuja. Recall that erudite scholar, Dr Sam Amadi, is a visiting professor at the Baze University, which Datti Baba-Ahmed founded in 2011.

On the website of Baze University, the 48-year-old Datti Baba-Ahmed is said to be an academician and businessman who delved into politics in 2003 to become a House of Representatives member between 2003 and 2007. He became a senator in 2011 on the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).

The website of the university reveals that Datti Baba-Ahmed has four degrees; a BSc and MSc in Economics from the University of Maiduguri, an MBA from the University of Wales, Cardiff and in 2006, he successfully completed his PhD studies, earning the title of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Westminster.

After his service year at the University of Agriculture Abeokuta, Ogun state, he was said to have worked as Projects Co-Ordinator, Baze Research and Data Services Ltd. and as Officer II in the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company, Lagos.

He worked as a Banking Officer, First Bank of Nigeria Plc from July 1997 to Dec 1998 and then came back to become the Managing Director of Baze Research and Data Services Ltd in July 1999 – January 2003, before venturing into politics.

In 2011, Datti Baba-Ahmed established Baze University, an independent university located in Abuja, Nigeria.
