Chippa United signed Nwabali from Nigeria Premier Football League side, Katsina United in October 2022
Chairman of South African outfit, Chippa United, Siviwe Mpengesi, has said he and the club would throw their weight behind Nigeria and their goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, when the Super Eagles take on the Bafana Bafana in Wednesday’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final.
Bafana Bafana are looking to play in an AFCON final for the first time since 1996, when they lifted the title.
It is, therefore, expected that all South Africans will be backing their national team against the Super Eagles during the last four encounter.
However, Mpengesi has chosen to support the club’s goalkeeper, Nwabali and Nigeria’s Super Eagles instead of his country of birth.

Speaking ahead of the match, he said: “With Stanley’s rising profile and the international attention it brings Chippa United FC, the benefits have been nothing but positive.
“Therefore, I and Chippa United FC stand behind our player Stanley Nwabali and the Nigerian Super Eagles tomorrow (Wednesday) against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana. We wish the Super Eagles all the best.”
