Veteran singer, actor and human rights activist, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has noted that “the Super Eagles really tried but the best team won” the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final.

He made the comment on his X handle recently, while reacting to Super Eagles’  2-1 loss to Cote d’Ivoire on Sunday night.

According to Charly Boy, Jose Peseiro’s men tried against the Ivorians and deserve accolades.

He, however, added that it was time for Nigerians to put the painful loss behind them and face the socio-political and economic problems confronting them.

Speaking via his social media page, Charly Boy tweeted: “The Super Eagles really tried but the best team won.”

He added: “Oya, make we face the demons facing us.”

TheNiche had earlier reported that the Super Eagles failed to lift their 4th AFCON title following a loss to hosts, Cote d’Ivoire.

Nigeria took the lead in the 38th minute  through William Troost-Ekong’s header.

But the Elephants rallied back and  levelled after the break through Franck Kessie’s header.

With a few minutes left in the game, Sebastien Haller flicked the ball past goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali to give the host the victory.
