The Apex bank in the country, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has once again advised Nigerians and the general public who still have old naira notes to return them to their respective banks as the deadline for their return gets closer.
Nigerians had earlier been told by CBN to return the old naira notes to the bank before January 31, 2023, because they will soon cease to be legal tender.
In its bid to remind the public that they have less than two weeks to make this happen, the CBN took to its various social media pages on Friday, January 13, 2023, to tell Nigerians that the deadline date will not be extended.
President Muhammadu Buhari launched the redesigned notes of N200, N500, and N1000 on November 23, 2022, and the new currency notes went into circulation on December 15, 2022.

CBN in their latest post on the subject, reminded Nigerians that old notes of N200, N500 and N1000 would cease to be legal tender by the end of the first month of this year.
“A reminder to the general public that the old series of N200, N500 and N1000 notes cease to be legal tender by January 31, 2023.
“You are once again advised to return them to your bank before the deadline.” CBN’s tweet read.
Even though the newly redesigned notes went into circulation last year, a lot of Nigerians have complained that they have been unable to access the new notes.
