Catholic Bishop abducted in Imo

Men suspected to be kidnappers have seized the Auxiliary Bishop of Owerri Catholic Archdiocese in Imo State, Moses Chikwe.

According to reports, the Bishop was kidnapped at the World Bank area of Owerri, the state capital on the night of Sunday, December 27.

The kidnappers also abducted the driver of the Bishop and abandoned the car near the Assumpta Cathedral in Owerri.

The Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria confirmed the abduction through a statement which said that the Archbishop of the Diocese, Victor Obinna, confirmed the kidnap.

The statement, signed by Secretary-General of the Secretariat, Zacharia Sanjumi, asked Nigerians to pray for the safe release of the cleric and his driver.

It is not clear if the kidnappers have opened communication with families of the cleric and the driver.
