Former Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher has insisted that Chelsea are not underdogs in the race for the English Premier League (EPL) title this season.

Speaking on Sky Sports after Chelsea came from 2 goals down to beat Tottenham 4-3 on Sunday, the Reds legend argued that the Blues’ impressive campaign “is no underdog story.”

Chelsea spent heavily on players over the last few transfer windows and finally seem to be reaping the fruits of their investments.

Many pundits while hailing their comeback against Spurs said the players have performed beyond expectations this season.

However, while discussing the West Londoner’s impressive run so far, Carragher argued that Enzo Maresca’s side should be competing for the EPL trophy having spent so much money.

“This is no underdog story, they’ve spent £1.2 billion.” he said.

Chelsea’s win over London rivals, Tottenham took them to second place on the league table.

They claimed 31 points and are now 4 points behind league leaders, Liverpool and two more than Arsenal in third place.

Chelsea’s next game is in the UEFA Conference League where they will face FC Astana on Thursday.
