Aubameyang is currently in Cameroon to represent his nation, Gabon at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament which begins in two days time.

There are speculations that Newcastle United have  made inquiries about the availability of the striker, who has fallen out of favour with his manager Mikel Arteta after he accused him of a disciplinary breach.

However, former Chelsea and West Ham  striker, Carlton Cole, while speaking with

Stadium Astro, said the dethroned Arsenal captain, is likely to head to Chelsea this January rather than Newcastle United.

According to him, Aubameyang played under Chelsea gaffer Thomas Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund, and the bond between the two could convince the 32-year-old Garbonese striker to make the move across London to Stamford Bridge.

He also said the accomplished striker is unlikely to  be willing to risk going down to the lower tier of the English division with relegation-threatened Newcastle United.

He said: “He’s not going to go down and start battling relegation, I can’t see that happening.

“If he goes up to Newcastle and then gets relegated with Newcastle, where does that leave him?

“If you look at it, Chelsea are in need of a striker as well.

“Imagine that, you never know! Stranger things have happened. It’s still London, do you know what I mean?

“Look at the history… Dortmund, Tuchel and Aubameyang… they know each other and he knows what he gets out of him.

“… I’m just saying it’s a possibility because everything’s a possibility in football.”
