West Ham United have done some of the remaining Premier League teams in the Carabo cup a favor by beating Man City on penalties.
The match could not produce a winner after the two teams canceled each other out.
While City as usual dominated the game, West Ham countered and were resolute at the back.
It was a competition Man City have made their own, winning five times in six years, and consecutively in the last four years.
John Moss, the center referee, brought the proceedings to an end, after adding some minutes to the normal time and the game went into penalty kicks.
Arron Cresswell scored to make it four out of four penalties for West Ham after Phil Folden had missed his spot-kick, the away side now needed Said Benrahma to put his penalty away to win the shootout.
Bennrahma made it five for the Hammers, as they scored all the five penalties, making City’s last kick irrelevant, West Ham thereafter progressed into the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.
Meanwhile, Liverpool dispatched Championship side Preston North End 2-0. Goals from Takunmi Minamino and Divock Origi in the 62nd and 84th minutes respectively settled the encounter.
Tottenham Hotspot recovered from West Ham’s loss over the weekend to pip Burnley 1-0 at Turf Moor.
Leicester also advanced after beating Brighton & Hove Albion on penalties, while Brentford won Championship side, Stoke City, to join seven others in the quarter-finals
