The team captain of Afghanistan Women Football, Shabnam Mobarez, has pleaded with FIFA to rescue her teammates from the Taliban after the Jihadists seized control of the country.
The Taliban considers a woman playing football as a violation of Islamic law, a crime punishable by imprisonment.
Mobarez, 25, who is currently residing in the United States, shared a chat she had with some of her teammates stuck in the country. She asked the football governing body, FIFA, to intervene and save the women from the grip of the Taliban.
In her tweet, she quoted a chat she previously had with one of her teammates: “‘Are you okay’ – My teammate in Afghanistan: ‘No I am not – I know they will come for me soon, can you help me?’”
She then tweeted @FIFAcom asking: “how should I answer the question? We must act to save my teammates. They are my sisters?”
