Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Northern Chairman, Yakubu Pam, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari and Northern governors to end attacks on Christians in the region.
Pam said in Jos that it is unacceptable for persons operating in the guise of defending Islam to hack two Christians, Bridget Agabahime and Methodus Emmanuel, to death for allegedly blaspheming Mohammed. Both were killed in the North.
He charged Northern governors to brace up to their responsibilities and provide security for the lives and properties of Christians in their states, reiterating that Nigerians have equal rights to live in any state of the federation.
He described the incidents in Kano and Niger States as regrettable and insisted that they should not be tolerated by people of goodwill.
Pam said the perpetrators of these evil acts must be fished out with their gangs, prosecuted in court and jailed, to serve as deterrent to others who may be nursing such ambition.
He also cautioned Northern governors not to create grazing reserves for herdsmen without consulting land owners, because doing so would be counter-productive.
According to him, this period in the history of Nigeria calls for prayers and understanding among the diverse peoples, in order for peace to reign in all parts of the country.
Pam commended the federal government for accepting to dialogue with the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) to facilitate peace in the region, stressing that through dialogue most of the conflicts in different parts of the country could be resolved.
He urged the security agencies to intensify efforts to end the activities of Boko Haram so that the displaced persons from Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa can return to their homes.
He asked Northerners to pray for lasting peace so that investors will be assured to invest in the region.
