The president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has suggested the Super Eagles of Nigeria have what it takes to lift the World Cup trophy.
Motsepe made this known during a recent interview with Channels Television, where he claimed the most populous West African nation can win the tournament, which has so far eluded an African nation.
Nigeria failed to qualify for this year’s World Cup in Qatar despite predictions from numerous football pundits, losing out to arch-rivals Ghana in the playoffs played in March.

However, despite the poor showing during the qualifiers, Motsepe has expressed optimism that the three-time African champions are good enough to become world champions.
He justified his assertion by arguing that Nigeria is one of the African countries with an abundance of talent in the sport.
Motsepe said, “I am absolutely confident [because of] the talent, God-given skills, and history of Nigerian football.
“Nigeria is one of those countries that have the potential. Not just to go to the semi-final or the final, but to win the World Cup,”
