The health of President Muhammadu Buhari came under scrutiny on January 16 when he attended his reelection campaign rally in Lokoja, the Kogi state capital. He almost slumped while descending the stairs of the podium at the campaign venue. But his aides supported him back to his feet.

Buhari, 76, was in the United Kingdom for three months to treat an undisclosed ailment. There have been concerns over his fitness to run the country for the next four years.

In a Channels Television visual shared by Banks Bamikole Omisore, an aide to Senate President Bukola Saraki, Buhari was seen falling to the ground but a man in flowing gown and his Aide De Camp swiftly braced him and prevented him from falling.

“Thanking God for saving President @MBuhari from that fall. In as much as I don’t want him beyond May 29 2019, I don’t want any harm to befall him. I just feel it is in the interest of Nigeria and his own personal interest to go home and rest,” Omisore said.

The Opposition coalition (CUPP) said they have been vindicated on their stand that Buhari is physically unfit to continue in office.

According to a statement signed by the first national publicity secretary, Ikenga Imo Chinyere, the “CUPP wants Nigerians to reject Buhari when they still have the power to avoid painful regret.

“Desperate APC/Presidency cabal wants Buhari back despite his lack of capacity to rule for selfish monetary and political reason.”
