Buhari signs only 19 out of 131 bills since 2019

Muhammadu Buhari has signed into law only 19 out of the 131 bills the Senate has passed since it was inaugurated on 11 June 2019, during which the Chamber introduced 976 bills by 23 March 2022.

Of the 976 bills introduced on the floor of the Senate, about 27 were sponsored by the executive, the rest by Senators.

Order 76 (a, b and c) of the Senate Standing Orders 2015 (as amended) lists three classes of bills: Executive Bills, Member’s Bills, and Private Bills.

The executive sponsored Appropriation Bills 2020, 2021, and 2022 as well as Finance Bill 2019 (Nigeria Tax and Fiscal Law) introduced on 5 November 2019 and passed on 21 November 2019.
