Buhari sacks SON director-general, approves new appointments at NAIC

President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria has approved the appointment of Farouk Salim as the new director-general of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON).

Salim’s appointment takes effect from September 26 and it was conveyed by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Niyi Adebayo, in a letter dated August 21, 2020.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Bashir Babajo as the executive director, Operations, Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation for a period of four years in the first instance.

Babajo’s appointment is with effect from August 1, according to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Buhari also renewed the appointment of Philip Ashinze as executive director, Finance and Administration for a second and final four-year period with effect from August 1.

The president’s approval was conveyed to the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development,  Sabo Nanono, in a letter with reference number, SH/COS/42/3/A/988, signed by the Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Gambari.

Nanno charged the executive directors to bring their wealth of experience to bear and ensure the continuous implementation of NAIC’s mandate in accordance with extant laws and other subsisting rules and regulations.

He disclosed this in a statement by the FMARD’s spokesperson, Theodore Ogaziechi, in Abuja.

He further advised the directors to justify the confidence reposed in them by working with all stakeholders to ensure harmony in the agricultural sector.
