Buhari mourns Jigawa APC Senatorial candidate, Tijjani Kiyawa

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Sunday, condoled with the family of Tijjani Ibrahim Kiyawa, a former member of the House of Representatives and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Jigawa South-West Senatorial District in the 2023 elections.

In a message to the family, the government and people of Jigawa State on Sunday, President Buhari described the deceased as a “kind and insightful politician who placed the interests of the people he represented above his own.”

A statement by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Buhari quoted the president as saying that Kiyawa left behind “an indelible contribution to the social and economic development of his community and the nation. He will always be remembered for his acute understanding of grassroots political mobilization.”

The President prayed for the repose of Kiyawa’s soul and fortitude to the family members, political associates and the government and people of the Jigawa State to bear the loss.

Kiyawa died in a hospital in China on Saturday.

He was said to have been admitted at an Abuja hospital for a lung infection but was flown to China for further treatment when his condition deteriorated.

The late Kiyawa won the APC senatorial ticket three months ago.

Meanwhile, Governor of Jigawa State, Muhammad Badaru, has described Kiyawa’s death as a great loss not only to his family but to the Muslim Ummah.

In a statement issued through his Special Adviser Media and Public Relations, Habibu Nuhu Kila, the governor condoled the family of the deceased.

“The Governor said the death of Hon. Tijjani Ibrahim Kiyawa is a great loss not only to his family but the Muslim Ummah.

“He described late Alhaji Tijjani Ibrahim Kiyawa as a loyal and dependable politician who contributed immensely to the political development of the country.

“Governor Badaru prays to Almighty Allah to grant him an eternal rest and his family the fortitude to bear the loss,” the statement said.

The deceased politician represented Dutse/Kiyawa federal constituency in the House of Representatives between 2011 and 2015.
