President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his condolences to the family of founder/Chief Executive Officer of the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, over her demise.

Anyiam-Osigwe breathed her last on Monday at St. Nicolas Hospital, Lagos. She was said to have been in coma days before her death.

According to a statement on Wednesday by the President’s spokesman, Femi Adesina, in Abuja, Buhari said he shares the pain of loss with the music and movie industry, particularly Nollywood and teeming followers of her career.

He maintained that a huge gap had been created by Anyiam-Osigwe’s exit.

The President affirmed the contributions of the dynamic and creative artiste and administrator to the growth of the film industry in Nigeria, using the award platform to engage and inspire many.

Buhari added that he believed the strong institutions Anyiam-Osigwe built for discovering and promoting African talents, AMAA and African Film Academy, would carry on her legacies.

Anyiam-Osigwe was so influential in the movie industry that she was called the “queen of Nollywood films”.

In 2020, she emerged as the National President of The Association of Movie Producers (AMP).
