President Muhammadu Buhari commended the gallant display of Nigeria’s Super Falcons against the Moroccan female national football team in the second Semi-finals of the African Women’s Cup of Nations.
The Nigerian girls played a large part of the match against the Atlas Lionesses with 9 players but put up a stellar performance to ensure the match went into a penalty shootout but eventually lost 5-4 on Monday night.

Reacting to the defeat via a press statement made available to TheNiche by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the president said though the result was disappointing, the ladies showed courage and made the nation proud.
‘‘Although many will be disappointed with the Moroccan victory on penalties, there are many positive outcomes for the Nigerian team to take home and prepare better for the next tournament,’’ the President says.
President Buhari went on to say he is encouraged by the doggedness, resilience, and professionalism of the girls, who despite playing with two players down before a home crowd showed their quality and class.
The President concluded that great things are expected from the team and like all Nigerians; he will be cheering them on at future outings.
