President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the All Progressives Congress (APC) governor of Osun state, Gboyega Oyetola over his Supreme Court victory.
Governor Oyetola was declared winner of the Osun state governorship election held in 2018 by the Supreme Court on Friday 5, 2019.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Oyetola winner of the governorship election on September 27, 2018.
The main opposition candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) filed a petition at the Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Osogbo to challenge Oyetola’s victory. The Tribunal declared Adeleke winner.
The Appeal court nullified the Tribunal’s verdict which prompted Adeleke to head for the Supreme court.
“I most warmly congratulate Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State on the Supreme Court ruling which today affirmed his victory in the September 2018 State Governorship election”, President Buhari tweeted.
However, the presidential candidate of the PDP in the February 2019 general election, Atiku Abubakar said in a Twitter thread that the PDP stands with the people of Osun in good times and difficult times.
“The Supreme Court has ruled and because of its judicial finality, the legal case is over,” Atiku said. 5
