President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria has challenged specialised tertiary institutions in Nigeria to key into his administration’s infrastructural development policy.
He also urged them to build human capacity that would create jobs and become self-reliant instead of waiting for non-existing government paid jobs.
The president also challenged members of staff of tertiary institutions of learning in the country to be reasonable in their demands as most of their demands cannot be met due to financial difficulties facing the government at the moment.
Buhari spoke as the Visitor to the 27th Convocation ceremony and the 35th Founders Day of the Federal University of Technology (FUT), which took place at the school’s permanent site, Gindan-kwano, Minna on Thursday.
The president, who spoke through the former Vice Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Professor Shehu B. Abdullahi, commended the management of FUT, Minna for making steady improvement in both academic and structural development of the school.
He told guests at the graduation ceremony for the 3,741 graduands for the 2016/2017 academic session, which included 62 First Class and 46 PhDs that the All Progressive Congress (APC) administration was encouraging youths to be self-reliant.
“Let me also remind our youths, particularly the gradiands that in addition to capacity to function in industry and create jobs, the education you have acquired has equipped you with the ability to make informed decisions on the various aspects of your personal life and nation building”.
