Buhari ‘allergic to probe and blame,’ after he ‘oppressed, dispossessed the poor … without remorse’

By Jeph Ajobaju, Chief Copy Editor

Muhammadu Buhari is “allergic to probe and blame” despite him inviting his successor to investigate his activities as President for eight years, a period described by critics as the years the locust ate up the good of the land.

This is the take of former Senator Shehu Sani in his latest swipe at Buhari over initial reports that he pleaded with President Bola Tinubu not to probe him and his Ministers, which Buhari has denied by asking Tinubu investigate him.

“They [Buhari and his officials] arrogantly oppressed, dispossessed the poor and the innocent and without remorse seek divine blessings for their injustice and inequity,” Sani posted on Twitter, per reporting by Vanguard.

“Buhari probed and blamed all the ills and vices of this country on the previous administrations but he is allergic to being probed and blamed.”

Buhari invites Tinubu to investigate him if he so desires

Tinubu reportedly gave an assurance to Buhari that he will not probe him and his close aides.

But Buhari has asked him to do so in a statement he issued through his spokesman, Garba Shehu.

An online medium reported on Tuesday that Tinubu assured Buhari and his inner circle will be spared in any anti-corruption war the new administration embarks upon following the suspension of EFCC Chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa.

Shehu dismissed the report as lacking in credibility and asked Nigerians to ignore it.

“It is fake, let us not discuss it or give it energy or air of publicity,” Shehu argued in the statement.

He recounted Buhari had left Daura for London last week (where he met with Tinubu) to get some rest which constant visits from well-wishers denied him.

“If social media is to be believed, former President Muhammadu Buhari is requesting his successor, President Bola Tinubu, not to investigate some former officials of his government…this is fake news, and nothing more.”

Shehu said there was no person in the room when two leaders met on Monday night, “So, no one was there to report their conversation.”

According to him, Buhari wishes to remain outside the spotlight so as not to distract the new administration.

“[Buhari] chose to go home in Daura hoping to find the type of quiet he wished for himself but realising that this was not the case, visitors trooping in morning, day and night, he moved out to a more distant place.”

It remains Buhari’s wish to be allowed to have his rest, and for the Tinubu administration to have the right atmosphere to deliver its promises to Nigerians, Shehu pleaded.
