Brown Ebewele’s family announces burial date

‘Brown Ebewele died on the last day of the year Dec. 31, 2021. A sportsman of note, nicknamed Jujuman of Africa for his excellence’

The family of the late Brown Ebewele has released the burial date for their son, father and patriarch. Brown Ebewele, who was former Commissioner for Sports & Youth Development in Edo State, passed on December 31, 2021.

According to a statement released by the son and brother of the deceased, Osereme Ebewele and Vincent Ebewele respectively, the burial arrangement has been fixed for January 27 through January 30, 2022.

The statement added that Brown Ebewele was a successful sportsman, who later became a seasoned coach; thereafter, Director of Sports and Commissioner for Sports, Edo State and other positions at the national federation and the continental.

Recall that the late Brown Ebewele played a major role as the Head of Team Edo in the last National Sports Festival hosted by Edo State. His contribution placed Edo State second on the medal table. He was fondly called Juju man by his numerous admirers.

Meanwhile, the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has mourned the passing of former Edo State Sports Commissioner, Brown Ebelewe.

Brown Ebewele, whose death was reported at the weekend was an Olympian and former National Champion and was part of the Edo delegation to the 20th edition of the National Sports Festival, which was held in Benin.

Obaseki, who bemoaned the tragic loss, said Ebewele’s passing was painful, as he still had a lot to offer Edo State and the country in general.

According to Obaseki, “I am saddened by the news of the passing of seasoned sportsman and sports administrator, who made indelible contributions to the development of sports in the old Bendel State and also in Edo State.

“Brown Ebewele was a rare gem and through his talent, made a name for himself, as he was fondly called “the jujuman” as a result of his impeccable sports talent.

“With huge success as an athlete with many laurels to his name and the credit of the state, he transitioned to become an outstanding sports administrator, serving as a Commissioner for Sports in Edo State.”

The governor said the death was even more painful because the state needed Ebewele’s experience in deepening the ongoing reforms in sports administration in the state.

Obaseki extended his condolences to the Ebewele family, the sports community as well as friends and associates of the deceased, praying that God will grant all the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.
