Broos also said he believes the Super Eagles will not start the World Cup qualifier in Uyo the way they played during AFCON

South Africa boss, Hugo Broos has said the Super Eagles were lucky to beat Bafana Bafana in the semi-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), insisting they were the better side.
The Belgian tactician also maintained that he does not fear the Nigeria team.
Bafana Bafana will tackle the Super Eagles in a World Cup qualifying match billed for the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom on Friday.
Speaking ahead of the match, Broos told reporters that, “Everyone of us wants to go and qualify for the World Cup in 2026. We are in front of two very tough games.
“First of all, Nigeria finalist in the AFCON, players who are playing in the best competitions in Europe. On the other side we also saw what we can do against them in the AFCON.
“If we had a little bit of luck on our side, we were in the final and not Nigeria. We were the best team in the semi-finals, we could have won that, so we don’t have to be afraid.”

The Bafana Bafana head coach, however, said his team will not be thinking about revenge when they confront Nigeria in Uyo.
According to him, he is only aiming to get a good result against the Super Eagles.
“We just want to have a great result against Nigeria, because it’s the qualifier for the World Cup. We don’t think about revenge.
“It’s a totally different game, we play for qualifiers for the World Cup and you know losing the game should not really be a disaster because after those two games we have six games to play but I would rather not have a defeat in Nigeria.
“We all know about them but they know all about us also. I think they will not start the game with the same mentality that they did for AFCON.”
