Wike and Makinde are members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and belong to the group of governors, the G-5, that worked against their party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar in the February 25 elections. Other members of the G5 were former Abia State governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, his counterparts in Benue, Samuel Ortom and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state. Ikpeazu, Ortom and Ugwuanyi lost in their senatorial election in their states.
Makinde and Wike are considered to be very strong allies of Tinubu and both men were believed to have played major roles for his emergence during the February 25 presidential election.
Ibori was said to have worked for the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the last general elections as his candidate for the PDP governorship election lost to the candidate of the former governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
There has been unconfirmed rumour that Ibori may soon defect to the APC, having lost control of the PDP in Delta State. Until the last election, Ibori had remained the godfather of Delta politics. His successors, Emmanuel Uduaghan and even Okowa were literally picked by him at various times. Both were commissioners under him during his tenure as Delta state governor. Ibori was instrumental to Okowa going to the Senate.
Wike on his own is having a running battle with the leadership of the PDP.
