Doguwa said there was “a dark horse behind this agenda.”

The House of Representatives on Thursday re-echoed the views of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, that there is “a dark horse behind” the naira redesign policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
This is even as the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, today shunned the invitation by the House of Representatives over the bank’s decision to stick to its January 31 deadline for the phasing out of the old naira notes.
Tinubu on Wednesday suggested that the fuel scarcity being experienced nationwide and the redesign of the N200, N500 and N1,000 notes are part of plans by the powers-that-be to scuttle his chances at the polls.
Tinubu stated this in Abeokuta during his campaign rally held at the M.K.O. Abiola International Stadium, Kuto.
He hinted that the unpleasant situations were created by his political opponents to cause disaffection among the citizenry towards the APC.
Emefiele was expected to appear before the Adhoc Committee set up by the House to look into the matter by 1 pm on Thursday.
But the lawmakers led by the committee chairman, Hon Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, waited in vain for the CBN Governor in meeting room 301.
The outraged Ado-Doguwa said the CBN had written that Emefiele was out of the country with President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said the bank lied because President Buhari was in Katsina State.
He said there was no other issue more important to the CBN at the moment than its new cashless policy, which he claimed threatens the well-being of Nigerians.
He said the Committee was going to recommend to the House to go ahead with its position to invoke relevant sections of the law to issue a warrant of arrest on Emefiele.
TheNiche earlier reported that the House during plenary presided over by Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila threatened to issue a warrant of arrest if he failed to turn up for the meeting to engage over the issue.
Doguwa said there was “a dark horse behind this agenda.”
At the moment of filing this report, the committee was meeting with the Chief Executive Officers of commercial banks over the same issue.
He said the engagement was to guide the House to take necessary decisions for the well-being of Nigerians.
