Tanko Muhammad was reported to have resigned on Sunday night, after citing ill-health as the reason behind his decision

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, is reported to have resigned his appointment and left his post as the head of the Judicial arm of government.
According to Channels Television, a reliable source broke the news of the CJN’s resignation on Sunday night, citing ill-health as the reason for his decision.
The station further reported that the government is making arrangements to swear in the next most senior justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola in an acting capacity.

It was also said that a formal announcement to this effect will be made any moment from now.
Until his resignation, there were unconfirmed reports that Justice Tanko Muhammad has been sick for some time.
The judicial arm of the government has also been in the eyes of the storm over allegations and counter-allegations bothering on corruption.
However, when his Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Ahuraka Yusuf Isah, was contacted, he neither confirmed or denied the information.
He said, “All I know is that he’s going to declare open a workshop this morning at the NJI (National Judicial Institute).”
