South-East governors to meet Tinubu over Nnamdi Kanu

South-East Governors Forum said it will meet President Bola Tinubu to seek a political solution to the detention of leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
Chairperson of the forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, stated this in a communiqué issued on Tuesday after a meeting.
Kanu, who is facing terrorism charges at the Federal High Court, Abuja, has been in detention since he was rearrested in June 2021 and brought back to Nigeria from Kenya under controversial circumstances.
The South-East governors who held a closed door meeting in Enugu on Tuesday include Uzodimma, Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo, and Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah.
Uzodimma said the forum received a delegation of former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, Emeka Anyaoku and Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, who came on a solidarity visit.

“The Forum deliberated on the reviewed report of the South East security and economic summit held in Owerri Imo state on the 28 September 2023 and agreed to implement the aspect of the report about security and economic integration of the South East region and affirmed its desire to put actionable plan on the key issues agreed.
“The Forum resolved to visit Mr. President to discuss all pressing issues concerning the South East region. The Forum also deliberated and resolved to interface with the Federal Government to secure the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” he said.
The South-East Governors Forum also set up a burial committee headed by former Senate President Anyim Pius for the late Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu.
Former minister of transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, was named secretary of the burial committee.
