Nigeria’s upper legislative chamber, the senate, has asked the chief of army staff, Lt General Tukur Buratai, and other service chiefs to immediately turn in their resignation letter.
At a plenary today, July 21, the lawmakers passed the resolution after the senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume (APC, Borno), expressed worry over the reported voluntary retirement of over 200 army officers.
The Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, who initially said the service chiefs were doing their best to rid the country of criminals, later concluded that their best were not good enough.
The Red Chamber, accordingly, asked its joint committee on security to find out why the officers were deserting from the service.
