Senate confirms Wike, Momoh, asks them to take a bow

Contrary to the expectation of many Nigerians, the Senate has asked the first ministerial nominee, Engr. Abubakar Momoh (Edo), to take a bow and go.
Momoh, who is a former member of the House of Representatives, was accorded the privilege by the Senate as a tradition.
Senate has also extended time to sit beyond 2pm to enable it screen the other nominees.
The same privilege was accorded the former Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike, who was equally asked to take a bow and go by the Senate.
But Wike was never a lawmaker.
Wike’s confirmation followed his self-introduction on the floor and pledge to work to transform the country if confirmed as a Minister.
Senator Mpigi Barinada, in supporting the nominee, said he, two other senators from Rivers and over five million people of Rivers are in support of his nomination.
“He is our best. He is our example. We three senators and over five million Rivers people are in total support of his nomination. I want to urge the Senate to ask him to take a bow and go,” Barinada said.
Senators supported that he should take a bow and go when Senate President Godswill Akpabio put the question to voice vote.
Thereafter, Wike left the plenary.
