Philip Shaibu wins Edo PDP factional gov primary

Deputy Governor of Edo State Philip Shaibu has been announced winner of a governorship primary conducted by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State.
Shaibu is said to have won the Thursday contest with over 301 votes.
It was not immediately clear if other candidates contested alongside him.
Meanwhile, the faction led by Governor Godwin Obaseki is yet to commence its election.

Ten aspirants were given passes to vie for the governorship ticket of the PDP. They are Omosede Igbinedion; former chairman Edo State APC, Anselm Ojezua; former chairperson of Esan West Local Government Area, Felix Akhabue; Felix Akhabue, former managing director of Sterling Bank, Asue Ighodalo; Deputy Governor Shaibu; Arthur Esene, former House of Representatives member, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama; Martin Uhumoibi, Osaro Onaiwu and Umoru Hadizat.
At least 576 delegates will decide the fate of the 10 aspirants at the primaries which will be held at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin.
The exercise will be conducted by an electoral committee chaired by Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal; with Governor Sheriff Oborevwhori of Delta as co-chairman. Other members of the committee are Senator James Manager (secretary), Senator Bayero Nafada, Nella Rabana, Hadiza Mustapha and Felix Hyatt.
