Osinbajo intensifies lobby for APC ticket, to meet Senators, Reps

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo

Osinbajo will be meeting senators and members of the House of Reps to seek their buy-in for his presidential ambition

Professor Yemi Osinbajo is not leaving anything to chance in his bid to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket.

After meeting APC governors and intimating them of his motivation to become President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor, Osinbajo has scheduled another meeting with senators and the APC caucus in the Senate to seek their buy-in for his ambition. The meeting will be held at Osinbajo’s official residence over Iftar, the meal eating by Muslims to break their fast.

Senate President Ahmed Lawan read Osinbajo’s invitation letter to the senators during the plenary.

It also emerged that the Vice President will be hosting House of Representative members tomorrow, to seek their support for his ambition to be Nigeria’s 16th head of state.

Back to the Senate, Lawan’s announcement came after he read the resignation letters of the National Chairman of APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and the Deputy National Chairman (North), Senator Abubakar Kyari.

Before their emergence as APC leaders, both Adamu and Kyari represented Nasarawa West and Borno North Senatorial districts of Nasarawa and Borno states, respectively.

TheNiche reported that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo formally declared yesterday his interest to vie for the presidency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Osinbajo, in his declaration on his Twitter page, said: “I am today, with utmost humility formally declaring my intention to run for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the platform of APC.

“At the direction of Mr President, I have represented our country in several international engagements. I have been in markets, factories, schools, and farms. I have visited our gallant troops in the North-East and our brothers and sisters in the IDP camps.

“I believe that the very reason why the Almighty God gave me these experiences, these insights and these opportunities, is that they must be put to the use of our country and its great peoples,” he said.
