Ooni takes new wife, Mariam Anako

Anako comes in as the new queen of Ife about 10 months after Naomi Silekunola, the last wife of the monarch left him.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has taken a new wife, Mariam Anako.

The new wife arrived at the palace of the monarch in Ile-Ife, Osun State on Tuesday night.

Oba Ogunwusi’s spokesman, Moses Olafare shared a video of the ceremony on Facebook.

Anako was taken into the inner court of the palace after a red substance was poured on her legs at the entrance as part of the rites performed on an incoming wife.

Anako works at Nestoil Limited, an engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning company in the oil and gas sector. She is a native of the Ebira ethnic group in Kogi.

Anako lost her dad at a young age and was brought up in the home of the former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Abubakar, who reigned as the boss of the Nigerian Police Force between 2012 to 2014. MD Abubakar, as he is known, is the in-law of Africa’s wealthiest man, Aliko Dangote. The Ooni’s new mother-in-law is a retired police officer.

Some of those present at the ceremony were the Ooni’s elder brother, Sooko Ogunwusi, the monarch’s other siblings and Anako’s relations from Ebiraland in Kogi State and Ilorin in Kwara State.
