Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has said it is ready to commence a nationwide strike aimed at seeking the reversal of fuel pump price hike and other policies by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The country woke up to a new adjusted PMS pump price by the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) on July 18, after an initial sharp increase in June.

While the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) fixed the new price of PMS at N617 per litre in the nation’s capital Abuja, it also increased prices all over the country.

The decision led to the criticism of the Tinubu-led administration, who despite removing fuel subsidy after taking over the mantle of leadership on May 29, is yet to implement palliative measures that will cushion the effect of the hike in the price of PMS on the masses.

Speaking to DAILY POST on the development on Wednesday, July 25, NLC spokesperson, Mr. Ben Upah confirmed that the labour union is set to embark on strike action.

According to him, it will be a nationwide strike, which will commence on Wednesday, August 2, 2023.

While confirming the industrial action, Upah said: “Yes, the nationwide strike will commence on 2 August 2023. We will soon issue a communique to that effect”
