Nigeria’s former President, Shehu Shagari, is dead. He was aged 93.
He died at the National Hospital, Abuja, on Friday.
Aliyu Shagari GCFR, served as the President of Nigeria’s Second Republic (1979–1983), after the handover of power by General Olusegun Obasanjo’s military government.
His government was overthrown in December 31, 1983 by a military junta led by Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, who incidentally is the current Nigeria’s civilian president. At 93, he was the oldest living former Nigerian president.
