BREAKING: Nigeria edge past Angola, qualify for AFCON last four

Nigeria with the win, will now face the winner of Saturday’s quarter-final between Cape Verde and South Africa in semi-final 

Super Eagles of Nigeria beat one of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) dark horses, Angola 1-0 in the first quarter finals of the tournament played on Friday evening.

A first-half goal from Ademola Lookman was enough to see Nigeria overcome the South African nation and book a semi-final ticket.

The Atalanta striker scored the goal in the 41st min after finishing a cut-back from Moses Simon.

The 1-0 scoreline flattered Angola, who were second best for long periods of the encounter.

Nigeria hitman, Victor Osimhen had a 75th-minute header ruled out for offside by the video assistant referee.

The Palancas Negras’ best chance fell to Zine just before the hour mark, but he rolled the ball against the base of the post.

With the win, Nigeria will now face the winner of Saturday’s quarter-final between Cape Verde and South Africa in the last four of the tournament.
