BREAKING: Nigeria confirms 5 new cases of coronavirus, restricts travellers from US, UK, 11 others

The Federal Ministry of Health on Wednesday announced five new cases of the deadly coronavirus.

The ministry said all new cases have a history of travel to the United States of America and the United Kingdom.

“We urge Nigerians to remain calm as public health response activities are intensified across the country,” the ministry said.

This brings the total number of cases in the country to eight, a significant jump from the previous three.

Meanwhile. the Federal Government has announced entry restrictions on travellers from the United States of America, United Kingdom, China and 10 others with over 1,000 confirmed coronavirus cases.

The Presidential Task Force on coronavirus led by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, stated this as part of measures to safeguard the nation.

Other nations affected by the restrictions include Japan, Spain, France, Germany, Netherland, Switzerland, Norway, Italy, Iran and South Korea.

The task force said travellers from these nations would be subjected to supervised self-isolation and testing for 14 days.

Nigeria has been reluctant to place travel ban as some other African countries have done.
