Erstwhile Central Bank (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, has been granted bail in the sum of N50m by a Lagos Court, after being charged with a 26-count bordering on alleged abuse of office and irregular allocation of $4.5 billion and N2.8 billion respectively.

Emefiele was admitted to bail with two sureties in like sum by Justice Rahmon Oshodi of the Ikeja Special Offences Court on Friday.

The Court, had on Monday, April 8, remanded Emefiele in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) which earlier in the day arraigned him for alleged crimes.

Judge Oshodi had ruled that Emefiele would remain in EFCC custody until April 11 when the court will decide on the bail application filed by his counsel. April 11, was declared public holiday by the Federal Government for the Muslim Sallah ceremonies.

Emefiele pleaded not guilty to the 26-count charge filed against him by the EFCC.

The second defendant, Henry Osioma, also pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge against him.
