Kuje Medium Prison in Abuja, the nation’s capital, on Tuesday night came under heavy bombardments by unknown gunmen, throwing the entire area into confusion and residents scampering for safety.
A first explosion was first heard at about 10.25pm, it was subsequently followed by a second and third blast, while sporadic gunshots were also fired.
According to Daily Sun, a few hours before the attack, the medium prison officials were alerted of a possible attack.

The incident was confirmed by a prison staff, who said the gunmen attacked the facility from the back of the prison yard.
Another source, however, reported that the gunmen who attempted to invade the facility were repelled by security operatives on duty.
The incident occurred hours after a similar incident, in which suspected terrorists, ambushed and attacked the convoy of President Muhammadu Buhari’s advance team of security guards and other officials, near Dutsinma, in his home state of Katsina.
The President was billed to travel to Daura to celebrate Sallah.
